History and Evolution

Year after year, the Hippocrate Award adapts to reflect developments in health and social services, ministerial priorities, and innovations within the community.

2010

Jean-Paul Marsan founded the Hippocrate Award, in collaboration with the journal Le Patient, to celebrate interdisciplinarity.

2012

The MSSS begins an annual partnership with the Hippocrate Award.

2015

The competition is expanded to include other professionals in the health and social services sector.

2019

Death of the founder, new executive leadership, and the launch of a strategic and digital initiative. Establishment of the Jean Paul Marsan Tribute Award.

2020

Incorporation of the concept of innovation in interdisciplinarity. Partnership with patient partners. New Le Patient Award. Establishment of a new award focused on the pandemic. Launch of a digital supplement to Le Patient magazine.

2021

Migration of the Pandemic Award to the Public Health Innovation Award. Development of the University Student Innovation Award in the inter-faculty health and social services program. Continued development of the Hippocrate digital platform.

2022

The 12th edition takes place against a backdrop of new strategic directions and changes identified by the Government of Quebec as necessary to foster a more human, more efficient, and more innovative healthcare system. The mission of the Hippocrate Award remains the same: to celebrate innovations in interdisciplinarity, while making them accessible to a broader ecosystem of services, in accordance with the directions recommended by various ministerial strategies.

2023

In light of new ministerial guidelines and the current evolving landscape, the awards and selection criteria are being overhauled in alignment with the recommended changes, which focus on value and on a more human, efficient, and innovative network.

2024

Breaking down silos, encouraging multisectoral and interdisciplinary approaches, and promoting value-creating projects in healthcare were central priorities. With this in mind, the Emerging and Transformative award categories were created, highlighting initiatives at different stages of implementation.

2025

This edition was marked by a complete alignment of the award categories and definitions with the very foundations of value-driven healthcare and services. Furthermore, the range of awards for this year’s competition expanded to include certain areas of the healthcare continuum, such as sustainable health and translational research, to name just two.
